Late last week, a volcano in Iceland spewed ash into the atmosphere. It caused air travel to and from Europe to be stopped. As the ash cloud began to dissipate yesterday, flights resumed in Europe. However, the earthquake had also spewed lava and ash around Iceland, causing damage to the area around the volcano. Also, the heat from the volcano melted some of the glaciers, causing a torrent of water to flow down the mountainside.
As disruptive and destructive as it may seem, a volcano is actually part of God’s plan. It is evidence of his creative power over the earth. Man can create many things, but only God has control over nature. Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected by the volcano, and those stranded because of its effect on air travel. God is in control, and He will regulate the extent to which the natural world interacts with humanity.
