Veteran Profile: James Alva Gurley Jr.


James Alva Gurley Jr. (August 29, 1945-March 9, 2006) was proud to serve his country. He was in the National Guard for most of his adult life, including three assignments in Korea. In addition to his work with the National Guard, James also worked for the City of Huntsville, Alabama, as a sanitation worker and then as a parking division officer who patrolled the city for violators of handicap and emergency zones at shopping areas. He was also a minister. His hobbies included fishing and writing music. He loved his family very much, and they miss him. He truly loved America and stood by his country.
